The project examines the explanatory power of concepts of social and geographical network analysis for phenomena of political conflict in medieval societies. MEDCON uses the network-like structuring through modern software not only as an instrument for the organization of data, but also as a tool for the reconstruction and analysis of past social ties, which are also relevant for discussions about the (in) stability of political structures in the present. This also demonstrates the additional use of digital tools beyond data collection for the development of new research questions.
